About the Event

This panel explores the challenges and opportunities of shifting careers in science communication and writing. Speakers will share personal stories, practical advice, and insights on navigating transitions to build fulfilling and impactful careers. You'll hear from:

Karin Kirk, a Bozeman-based geologist and contributing writer for Yale Climate Connections

Jimmy Negus, an astrophysicist and outreach coordinator for IFE-STAR at Colorado State University

Kenna Hughes-Castleberry, a freelance writer and content manager for SPACE.com

The discussion will be moderated by Katie Langin, a reporter and editor with Science magazine. We'll take five minutes at the start of the event to hold SWARM's annual membership meeting (a short presentation by SWARM's president on activities for the past year). We're also thrilled to welcome members of Michigan Science Communicators (MiSC) as a partner for the event.
